In this course, learners will explore the Electoral College.\u00a0 Learners will be using Blackboard as our learning environment and repository for all course-related information and documents.\u00a0 This self-paced course is divided into four lessons and each lesson is followed by a short quiz.\u00a0 The course should take approximately 30 minutes to complete.\u00a0 Level: Open.\u00a0 Credit: None.\u00a0 Prerequisites: Must be a Registered Voter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instructional Goal:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Learners who successfully complete this course will be better informed citizens and better able to analyze the election process and the news of the day.\u00a0 They will also be able to make a more informed decision about the movement to change from the Electoral College to the National Popular vote.

Learning Objectives:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After completing this course, the learner will be able to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.     Describe the legal basis for the Electoral College<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.     Explain the contention among the Founding Fathers the creation of the Electoral College<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.     Explain how the Electoral College operates<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.     Distinguish between a democracy and a representative republic<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5.     Describe the makeup of the Electors<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6.     Name the Presidents that lost the popular vote<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7.     Calculate the fewest number of states needed to win to win the Electoral College<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Summarize the pros and cons of the Electoral College<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Completion of this course requires access to a computer, smart phone or mini pad that supports audio, video and a web browser that supports Blackboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assignments:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n


<\/strong>The assignments for this course include quizzes and discussion questions for each lesson.  Quizzes will consist of multiple-choice questions and matching questions designed to test your recall, analysis, and interpretation.  Discussion questions come from that week\u2019s topic.  Total possible points: 100.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grading:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is a self-paced course that learners have 30 days to complete.  The only deadline is that all work be submitted within 30 days of the start of the course.  Quizzes will address the lesson topics.  Discussion questions will be based on current topics related to the discussion of the Electoral College and allow the learners to apply what they have learned and express a viewpoint.
